Department of Family and Community Development (FCD)
The Department of Family and Community Development (FCD) promotes the growth and maintenance of HSCSN membership. FCD is responsible for planning and participating in programs/ community events to increase the District resident’s awareness of HSCSN benefits and services.
FCD makes sure that SSI-eligible individuals are aware of benefits and services available to them through our programs. Efforts are made to find existing members and provide assistance to help them improve their health, social and environmental needs. The Department of Family and Community Development has also implemented several support groups to address the special needs and concerns of families and communities.
FCD partners with several community organizations including Georgetown University Center for Children and Human Development, George Washington University Medical School, University of Maryland, University of District of Columbia, Department of Health, Advocates for Justice and Education, Lead Safe Washington, National Children’s Museum, Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Health, and United Planning. These organizations conduct research for measurement outcomes related to support group activity, and provide training to support group members.
